ABOUT
Elijah Kirby
Founder / Meteorologist
Elijah Kirby is the owner and operator of Southern Tennessee Weather, formerly known as Shelbyville Weather. What began as a childhood fascination sparked by witnessing the 2009 Murfreesboro tornado has grown into a lifelong passion and calling.
While still in high school, Elijah launched Shelbyville Weather to provide his community with hyperlocal forecasts and lifesaving storm updates. As the platform grew, so did its reach. The rebrand to Southern Tennessee Weather reflects this expansion, now serving not only Shelbyville but the entire Southern Tennessee region, including Bedford, Coffee, and Moore Counties.
Today, Southern Tennessee Weather reaches thousands of residents each day with daily forecasts, public service announcements, and real-time livestream coverage during severe weather events. With more than 14,000 Facebook likes and 16,000 followers, it has become a vital part of the region’s safety and preparedness.
Elijah is completing his degree in Meteorology at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) and is an active volunteer in the National Weather Service’s SKYWARN (tSpotter) program, delivering timely, ground-level alerts during severe weather.
In addition to his academic training and official roles, Elijah maintains a strong online presence across Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and YouTube, and regularly partners with local radio outlets to ensure that vital weather information is accessible to all.
